Unfortunately, the real tragedy here was not that a father had drowned, or that a young man had been run down in cold blood, or that businesses were burned. The real tragedy was that this insistent and incessant classification of human beings based upon something as superficial as skin color was destined to fuel similar tragedies in future generations.
